An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Bank of America phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Bank of America staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

My Experience Calling 800-432-1000

Dec 12, 2023

I'm not currently a customer of Bank of America. I was interested in opening an account, and this is the phone number on their website. However, I couldn't reach anyone. The automated menu asks for a telephone access ID, card or account number. After not responding, it said you must provide the requested information to speak with an agent for security reasons or use the automated system. There were no instructions on accessing an automated system, though. I tried pressing 0, but it just repeated the message. After two repeats, it disconnects the call.

On Bank of America's customer support page, there are several categories to choose from to get relevant contact information. This number is listed for most of them. There are different numbers for things like credit cards and auto loans. Some categories, like account changes, direct you to schedule an appointment with a local branch. If you don't have a local branch, it provides this customer support number. The general help page says this number is for general account information, lost or stolen ATM or debit cards and opening an account.

Bank of America has a customer support website. This is where you can find the phone numbers for different needs. Most of them have a corresponding page of frequently asked questions. There's also a branch and ATM locator, and you can schedule in-person appointments. For contact methods, they have phone numbers, their mailing address and links to message them through Facebook or Twitter.

The online help center has quite a few articles covering several topics. They list trending topics along the top, including routing number, bill pay, make a payment, dispute charge and Erica virtual assistant. It looks like they have articles covering all of their products and tools. You can apply for checking, savings, CDs, credit card and loan accounts from their main home page. Each has its own landing page with information on the different options. Online banking is heavily promoted, and most of their tools are online.

It seems this phone number is only intended for current customers. You need to verify your account information to get to an agent. Even though this number is listed online as a way to open new accounts, I only see a way to do that in person at a branch or by applying on their website. Online reviews show many customers are unhappy with Bank of America's phone support. The most common reason to call is for fraud or unauthorized charges; since this is a more complex issue, I'd rather speak to someone than try to navigate it online. However, many of the bad reviews complain about the lack of help in this area.

Bank of America's website
Online Help - Home Mortgages

As a last, sometimes only, resort- Bank of America customer service can be accessed through their website. This can entail digging through help articles before finding a form and "being allowed" to submit a problem to their team, and rarely leads to a real-time conversation, which is why GetHuman does not recommend this unless it's the only way.
