GetHuman History

GetHuman.com was started in 2005 by Paul English, now the CTO and Co-founder of Kayak.com Travel Search Engine. It began as a single web page on Paul's personal web site, and was at first called "The IVR Cheatsheet".

Immediately, GetHuman gained popularity as millions of frustrated customers sought phone numbers and a faster way to contact the companies they do business with.

By November of 2005, GetHuman had gotten mention in the Boston Globe, on MSNBC, in the Wall Street Journal, and on NPR Morning Edition.

In early 2006, Tom Duffy wrote a sizeable article in People Magazine about Paul English and the GetHuman movement, and steady stream of articles in various national newspapers and news programs followed. Many of them are listed on our Press page.

While popularity of the web site soared, Paul English had already begun work on his latest company, Kayak.com. By the beginning of 2007, Paul had to end his involvement with GetHuman.com in order to focus full-time on his growing company. He handed over operation of the site to Walt Tetschner the editor of the ASRNews Newsletter - a newsletter focused on the speech technology industry.

At the beginning of 2009, Walt created get2human.com where he can be found, and where he still offers consulting and expertise for speech technology. Since then, GetHuman.com has been under new management, and has taken many exciting new directions.

Stay tuned to see what new features and information we add to the web site. GetHuman.com is updated every 2 weeks with new features and improvements, and we constantly update the information found on the site pertaining to companies and customers.
