The gethuman site was created by Paul English as a part-time project in 2005. But Paul got too busy with his "day job" as CTO of kayak.com to maintain gethuman, so he asked volunteer Walt Tetschner to take over the maintenance of the gethuman website.

However, Walt started taking the gethuman website in a design direction which was inconsistent with Paul's approach to web design. Thus, Paul restored his original gethuman website, and then added a link to Walt's new website which for now is simply called get2human.com, and which is actively maintained.

Paul and Walt are still friendly, even though they have decided to take different paths with the design of their sites.

For the time being, gethuman.com is operated and supported by volunteers, and now contains thousands of company phone numbers, with shortcuts and tips, and reviews from other customers.
