On it's online blog,
Sony / Playstation claimed it was subject to one of the largest data breaches in history. Hackers broke into Sony's online playing community and stole user names, birthdays, and possibly credit card information of 77 million users.
Sony / Playstation has since shut down the online community while it investigates the matter.
Sony / Playstation has warned users about the breach, and claimed it is still investigating whether or not the credit card information was compromised, but even if it was, the hackers would not have been able to access the four digit security pin on the back of the credit cards. All users of the Playstation community should monitor their credit card statements closely to see if there is any suspicious activity. Even if the credit card information wasn't taken, users should be on the look out for emails and regular mail, soliciting further information as it could be a scam to try and find more information that could be used against the online gamer. Concerned consumers are encouraged to contact the company with any concerns, and if any new information becomes available on the matter, we'll be sure to post it.
