Just a heads up to all of you that shop at
Kroger , the nation's largest grocery store was one of many companies that was subject to a massive security breach. According to the company Epsilon, an email marketing firm, of which
Kroger is one of it's many clients, was recently hacked and customer's personal information was compromised. The hackers were able to obtain
Kroger customer email addresses and names, so be aware there may be some unauthorized emails sent you the email account you have registered with the grocery store. The company is advising customers to delete all suspicious emails or spam as the hackers are using the email addresses for phishing. No other information other than names and email addresses were compromised.
The bigger issue may be the fact that several other Epsilon clients, including seven of the top ten companies in the country (according to Fortune Magazine) were also exposed in the data breach, and some bank customers may have had personal information compromised. Companies on the list released by Epsilon include TiVo, US Bank, JPMorgan Chase, Verizon, Capital One, Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards, Citi, Brookstone, McKinsey & Co., New York & Co, Kroger and Walgreens. To be safe, clients of Chase and Citbank will want to monitor the situation closely as members of the rewards programs may have had more than just names and email addresses hacked. Over the weekend, Citi released a statement via Twitter explaining they are investigating the breach. Call me naive, but Twitter only? Honestly Citi? What happens if people don't care to follow the bank/credit card on Twitter? Then they'd have no idea about the breach. Regardless, any customer that thinks their account may be compromised is encouraged to call the company with any questions.
