Cisco Systems, Inc. recently announced they are discontinuing the Flip Video Camera. This is a subject that strikes home with me as I have a Flip, and I use it all the time, and have even written about the superior customer service I received from
Cisco in the past. With the likes of the iPhone and Android phones now carrying 5-8 megapixel high definition cameras built into the phone,
Cisco claims it can no longer compete with the phone makers. While it is true the new phones provide all in one functionality, I have to admit, the ease of use, along with the size of the Flip always made it an easy addition to any kind of travel or activity. According to CNET, a customer service representative at
Cisco Systems, Inc. claimed they would continue to service Flip customers that already purchased the cameras, however, someone in the
Cisco Systems, Inc. public relations department could not confirm if that was true. The answer as always is to stay tuned. From my own personal experience with the Flip, as well as with other
Cisco products, I find it hard to believe the company would falter on future customer service for any of it's products, whether they were discontinued or not. However, we here at
GetHuman.com love CNET and use them often for all kinds of technology advice, so if they are saying the service may be discontinued, then we have to believe them. Regardless, we're sad to see the Flip go. It's an awesome product, but hopefully it means the phones in the future will have better cameras along with the same quality customer service that
Cisco Systems, Inc. had with the Flip.
