Not that we'd ever willingly want to say anything bad about anything
Apple ever does (seriously, please don't let them take our Macbooks or iPhones away), but more and more stories have emerged from unsatisfied customers, not being able to get their hands on an iPad2 over the weekend. Multiple reports have surfaced claiming customers waited for several hours outside of
Apple stores, waiting to buy iPad2's, only to have the stores sell out, without telling them. According to reports, anxious customers were given updates when certain models were sold out, as well as what models were left, however, customers were never given any idea of how many iPad2's the stores actually had in stock, so they had no idea if waiting would allow them to purchase one. This may seem like small potatoes to some, but apparently
Apple was extremely concerned about hitting analyst estimates about first day sales, and so they gave the larger stores more units to sell than smaller stores. That's great news if you happen to live by one of the larger stores, but for those people that were at the smaller stores with a limited supply, that meant many angry customers and unsatisfied customers who wasted their time.
Is this a huge deal? No. Is it a big deal? Maybe. The point is for a company that just can't seem to ever miss on it's products and prides itself on amazing customer service, this is blip on the map for the computer giant.
Apple experienced a similar problem with the launch of the original iPad, and many customers (present party included) ended up waiting over a month for their iPad to ship. You would think the company would have learned from the previous launch and would have been better prepared for the launch of iPad2, but here we are. The good news is, the company owns 90% of the market share, so it clearly has the ability to ramp up production, and quickly. If you were one of those customers who missed out on the iPad2 the first day, you can be sure the company will have plenty more for you to buy in no time.
