Harley Davidson Tip from Oct 29, 2009

Tip from another customer

Vehicle identification number: 1HDGM1116K342387 2006 FXD Current mileage: 13,252 Reference number: 1033580 Owners: James and Monique Cosgrove Glendora NJ I own a 2006 Harley Davidson 2006 FXD (Dyna) I was riding on a highway when I heard a sound and the bike refused to drive. I coasted to a stop and I looked down and the 5 bolts that go into the rear tire sprocket were completely sheared off and the belt off as well. By the grace of God the tire did not come off but held on. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEEDS HARLEY DAVIDSON WOULD DEFINITELY BE SUED AND BROUGHT UP ON CHARGES! I had to get my cycle towed via Rider’s Insurance (THANK YOU RIDERS!!!) I had the bike towed to a local shop and then called my service and purchase dealer, Mike’s Harley in DE. They made arrangements to have the bike picked up to investigate the issue. My warranty request was denied because 1-over the time limit of 2 year warranty. 2-I did not have my 10K service done and the bike had 13,252 miles. The dealer did offer to charge for parts only. I explained that all my servicing was done at Mike’s and why did no one contact me about the mileage servicing (it was mis-explained to me previously and I am a Novice rider). I also asked about recalls and service notices on the bike and was told there are none and the previous servicing and “recall service” I had done was not a real recall. WHICH IS LUDICROUS!!! I then explained about the false neutral issue I experience and that this is an intermittent problem and they should have replaced the parts which are on the Harley recall list to play it safe!!! I was again told there is no problem or issue. Obviously they aren't safe or bright individuals!!! I said as much and that I felt I had reason to be nervous. The service dept told my husband that maybe I should sell my bike. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON THAT THE BOLTS SHEAR OFF FROM ONLY 3K MILES OVER SERVICING AND ME NEARLY DYING! The work is done but I feel ripped off and taken advantage of. I don’t know that I will feel safe riding on the bike again. We currently own 3 Harleys but I don’t think there will be anymore in our future. We purchased 5 different motorcycles from Mike’s and unless I can receive some reassurance unlike I have received in the past with Harley and its poor representatives I am not towing it or bringing them there anymore nor will we be getting another!!! When I sent this info to the service department I was told to call the Harley-Davidson customer service is (414)343-4056. Not even an 800# but one that I will be charged for….What a disgrace! Nevertheless, my cycle repairs with damaged internal parts perhaps, rear sprocket, hub etc and 10K servicing has been completed for over a $1000.00 and I have to pick up the bike in what is now colder weather. Please forward this complaint to your corporate officers and respond to me via my cell phone immediately 856-419-8022 on what action Harley will take to repair all these screw ups and rude personnel!?
