Dell Tech Support rating from customer: 2.0 out of 5: Poor. Comments from customer: Took another 29 minutes to get some lady in India to admit she had no clue as to when my damaged shipment replacement was going to be shipped out... all she could say was that is was in processing. Last Saturday got passed from India to El Salvador where someone finally got the ball rolling and order a replacement which was supposed to have shipped out Monday. Again the Indian had no clue!!! It seems that the ONLY folks who had up-to-date info was the PILOT Freight Co. They already have the replacement unit and it's on the way. For a company that deals so heavily with computers, one would think that Dell just might be able to have current information, but obviously their right hand has no clue as to what the left one is doing! A really poor showing for what is supposed to be a top notch company!

I dealt with 3 indians who succesively put me on hold for 66 minutes and accomplished absolutely nothing! Oh, they were great at apologizing and saying how sorry they were, but still had not a clue as to how to assist me with my purchase that was damaged in shipment. Asked to speak with someone in the U.S., got another apology and bullcrap about how Dell is a multinational corporation...blah, blah, blah!!! Ineresting how Dell seems to have forgotten "where they came from". Multinational is all good and well, but I didn't buy my TV in India, and it would be nice to speak with an American who had a clue and knew what to do.

Dell Tech Support rating from customer: 3.0 out of 5: Average. Comments from customer: I don't recommend buying from Dell. It's like gambling. If the item works, you're fine. If you need help of any kind, you may be in for a nightmare. Sitting on hold listening to horrible music and very annoying repeated announcements, reaching the wrong person and having to go back on hold, finding out the department you need is closed, and a very large amount of serious incompetence and noncomprehension of American spoken idioms add up to a very miserable experience.

Dell Tech Support tip: I lost some of my Windows XP files and attempted a repair install only to find out that my computer came with Windows XP Pack 3 and the reinstallation CD was a Windows XP Pack 2. I attempted a clean install and the computer would not accept it. Called the service tech and for an hour he had me repeating the same steps I'd already taken and he had me repeat it three times. He then transferred me over to another dept saying they could help me, but she told me it was the wrong dept and transferred me over to another where I remained online on hold for another fifteen minutes and I finally hung up. I will never order another DELL. This has been the most troublesome fifteen months with a computer that I've ever had.

Having contacted Dell for a number different computer categories/product lines, it is clear that different machine types get routed to different countries, with dramatically different results.

Business, Small Business, Government - Probably US or Canada, adequate service (includes Servers, OptiPlex, Latitude, etc.)

Home & Home Office - India - Horrible wait times, clueless tech support, takes hours and multiple phone calls to resolve problems, refuses to transfer to US support (Dimension, Inspiron, Studio, etc.)

Dell Tech Support tip: Called Dell for trouble with my new printer Dell V505W...I was transfered from USA to Canada, then to technical support. The rep had to read instructions while I waited...His English not great, highly accented (from India?). Long story short...after about 12 hours on the phone, over about one month, with 4 other calls to technical help, including the final call to customer service where I was transfered back to tech support again AGAINST my wishes... I was eventually sent 2 (!) replacement Dell V505W replacement printers...EACH one had EXACTLY the same problem (paper jam). I called again Dell tech support, was escalated to a manager. I agreed to another (!) printer but this time a different model: the Dell 968. I kept my same contract terms and did not ask for any refund or any compensation. I received the Dell 968...it was REFURBISHED!! with no power adapter, no power cord, no disk to upload the driver, no ink cartridges. I called again Dell, and returned this Dell 968 the same day.

Dell Tech Support tip: support is sectioned off into groups by system type and company numbers (Home & Office, Small Business, Corporate Business, Federal, etc).

when people skip putting in their express service code, or at least replying to the "which system do you have" prompt, it often lands them in the WRONG QUEUE, where they wait longer than they have to, only to find out they were in that queue, then have to wait for a transfer.

dell agents can only handle systems identical to what they normally support under their company number if the customer has reached the wrong group (ie: latitude SMB customer in latitude CBG).

it sucks when someone gets transferred 4 or 5 times just to get to me, and find out it was a simple fix.
