<title>Alaska Air: The Best of the Worst</title>

<summary type="html" ><![CDATA[A recent JD Power and Associates poll of the 2010 North America Airline Satisfaction Study ranked <a href="/Alaska_Air-customer-service_32.html">Alaska Air</a> in terms of overall customer satisfaction.  The report claims that while customer satisfaction is at a three year high, the levels are still below what they were before airlines started charging for bags as well as in-flight meals.  As always, customers should be wary of different survey results and the ensuing analysis.

While the report claims customers are more willing to accept fees on flights, it is also important to note that the amount of flights customers have booked in recent years have dropped.  One could read those results several different ways.  Either customers are getting more comfortable with the fees, or they are finding other ways to travel or are just traveling with less.  This is also the same report that claims customers miss the days of in-flight meals.  While that may be true, since airlines began cutting costs in recent years, the survey does not specify whether by "meals" it means the whole meals once served, or the simple bag of peanuts that came with the complimentary in-flight drink service.  This is the sad state of affairs in the airline industry.  Not only have airlines cut costs across the board on what were once complimentary items, but they now have people convinced they really want that chipped beef on toast that tastes like cardboard!

That being said, we always love pointing out companies that go above and beyond the call of duty to the paying customers, so kudos to <a href="/Alaska_Air-customer-service_32.html">Alaska Air</a>.  Regardless of the survey analysis, we applaud a company that offers its customers vouchers if their luggage is not in the baggage carousel 25 minutes after the flight has landed.  Instead of looking to cut costs, <a href="/Alaska_Air-customer-service_32.html">Alaska Air</a> is willing to incur them when they don't do their job properly.  Now that's good business!
